DAY 37 - CLARKSTON, WASHINGTON to PENDLETON, OREGON

JUNE 19 , 2014

We said goodbye to Hells Canyon RV Park this morning. It was sunny, warm and a beautiful day for traveling.

The river was like glass and reflected the mountains.

Snake river beside Idaho 12 highway

We are heading out of the mountains so we wanted to have pictures before we hit the flat lands.  Notice people watering the lawns with plenty of river water.

Watering the fields

This bridge is so low, I guess the boaters can't go underneath it.  Lucky for the fish.

These homeowners have a wonderful view of the river. Farming on the top of a mountain.  Something I've never seen.

Windmills, windmills everywhere. Lots of wind also to keep them moving.

These beautiful yellow flowers are really canola plants. Makes the landscape lovely.

Entering the town of Dayton.  The Indian sculptures are showing us the way to the Lewis and Clark Encampment. They stopped here to meet with the Walla Walla Indians on their way back to St. Louis.

Now into Dayton. Very somber Veterans Memorial to all those lost in all wars since the  Spanish  American War.

This is the Columbia County Courthouse.  The oldest operating courthouse in Washington state. They also have the oldest operating jail in Washington.  This picture of the courthouse is carved from wood.  The chairs, benches, railings and lights are all the original pieces, refurbished about 20 years ago.

These cannon still belong to the army.  One day a few years ago local teens decided to fire these guns.  They did but the shots blew the sign off the movie theatre across the street.  The firing chambers have been plugged and the sign has been fixed.

This is another first for Dayton.  This is the oldest existing Train Depot in the state of Washington.  Notice this great popcorn machine! Here we are with the train conductor.

Now on to lunch.  Two locals recommended the Weinhard Cafe. Great lunch and even better desserts. HOWEVER, don't be in a hurry.  We were there for two hours.

Let's see wine or dessert? Both

On to Walla Walla.  Noreene and Jeff were stopping for a bag of those sweet onions.  Can't wait to get one or two.

We're now back to the flat lands and away from the curving roads.

Checked into Wildhorse RV Park. Great sites and lots of warm sunshine.  Everyone is getting ready for an ice cream social to celebrate Larry's birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Larry. Looks like he's enjoying his special day.  Looks like everyone else is enjoying with him by having ice cream.

Another great Adventure.
