JUNE 2, 2014
Our
activities today had only a little to do with our plan. The weather led to re-consideration of what
activities we should do. We drove to the
North Dakota Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center where we again saw many
informative and wonderfully presented displays.
About 10 miles from this Center was the location of Fort Mandan, the
place the Corps of Discovery stayed through their first winter of the
trip. The original site of Fort Mandan
has been washed away and buried over time.
A re-construction of the Fort, done as closely as possible to the
sketches made by Clark, is adjacent to the Center. We enjoyed a great tour guide at Fort Mandan,
and we looked through the re-constructed Fort.

What do you think Honey? Can I have it? |
Making a canoe the old fashioned way. |
Fort Mandan ---- Home Sweet Winter Home. |
What am I bid for this lovely winter home? I have 25, do I hear 30, 30 anyone, how about 30? |
Nine men to a room, good thing they didn't have any beans along. |
Winter stores, except the whiskey. |
After lunch, we visited the Abraham Lincoln State Park. The Park includes Fort Abraham Lincoln, the home base of General Custer and his 7th Calvary. A re-construction of the Custer home is there for tours.
Custer should have stayed home. |
Also at the Abraham Lincoln State Park is the historical site of On-a-Slant Indian Village. The historic site is re-constructed to show typical structures the historic village would have included. Most of us walked through the site on our own. A few were given a guided "tour".

We finished
the day with a pizza party in the garage.
Good pizza. Pass me a wrench, will you? |
