DAY 24 - FORT PECK, MT
JUNE 6, 2014

Today was a "free" day.  We were parked near Fort Peck Dam and the town of Fort Peck.  We toured the visitor center and museum, and some of us took a tour of the dam.

Upstream side of the dam.

The story of town.

Fort Peck Reservoir.
I'm so nervous.
Where is that Ranger with the tranquilizer dart when I need him?

We also drove through the town of Fort Peck.  Before the dam construction, there had not been a town here.  As part of the construction camp, a complete town was constructed.  The town now is the remainder of the construction camp with more  current additions.  One of the original structures in town was the theater.  During the construction period, the movie theater essentially showed movies 24 hours a day.  On display in the theater is one of the original projectors.  It used a carbon arc light.  Most of us attended a performance of Driving Miss Daisy.  The performance was done by only three cast members and was excellent.

Original theater building.  Movies then, plays now.

Theater at night.

Our day included a "staff prepared meal" of pulled pork sandwiches plus cabbage slaw, baked beans, and desserts.  A huge thank you to Sue, who did most of the cooking.  Just before the food, we had a travel briefing for tomorrow.

Didn't you have several desserts already?

These travel briefings make me cry!
