DAY 6 - PLATTE CITY, MO
May 19, 2014
We
began the day with warm sunny weather as we head out to Harley Davidson for the
factory tour.
|
American Made, since 1903 |
|
And then I said, "get on, hold tight, and shut up." |
Selected employees can park their bikes right at the front
door.
|
The Lucky Ones |
We had time to drool over the new bikes and buy neat stuff in the gift
shop before our tour. Looks like we have some potential
"bikers" in this group.
|
Hey Good Looking. How about a ride? |
We were able to get a couple of
pictures of the factory, but only from their billboards because photography is not allowed in the plant. Everyone had a
great time with super tour guides at HD. Remember everything that says HD comes in $100 increments!
Driving
through the city we see some of the old unique architectural features as we
move on to see the Ewing and Muriel Kauffman memorial gardens. BEAUTIFUL.
Please note the gravestones. I guess Muriel didn't want anyone to
know her age, even after she passed.
|
Tip Toe through the tulips. |
|
Those aren't tulips. Oh Well, TipToe anyway. |
|
Men don't care about their age. |
|
Women do!! |
Now
it's on to lunch at the City Market with many good choices. A group of us
headed for Kansas City BBQ at Winslow's. We obviously enjoyed it.
|
Plastic glasses and Styrofoam, our kind of place. |
|
The sign looked good, where's the food? |
We then walked to the Arabia Steamboat Museum. This was fascinating
to say the least. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the tour as well as meeting one
of the men who found and excavated the boat. Sure to be one of the
highlights of the trip.
|
Is the pointy end called starboard or port? |
|
A small portion of a wonderful collection |
|
Some recovered equipment |
|
All this stuff, but only 27 cents. |
Back
on board the bus to visit Lewis and Clark Point. Wonderful statue and
view of the river.
|
Artistic license, Sacajawea wasn't in Kansas City. |
Another
great day on our journey. Only 40 days to go!
