DAY 13 - SIOUX CITY, IA
MAY 26, 2014

Up and at it.  Another ride-share day.  This one centered on the life and story of Sgt. Floyd.  The Sargeant was the only member of the Lewis and Clark group to die on the trip.

Where is the back?  Where are we going?

First stop was a river boat named for Sgt. Floyd.  It was a diesel-powered boat that worked the river long after Sgt. Floyd was buried.  Even though the boat was much newer than the story, it contained a boat load of displays and history.  All three deck levels were open to be seen, and the group visited all of them.

Open early, just for us.

The boat on display, high and dry.

Sgt. Floyd, reconstructed.
Forensic re-creation based on his bones.

Great displays

Model of a boat we've seen before.

Following the boat, we drove over to a monument raised in honor of Sgt. Floyd.  He was originally buried near the location of the monument.  His bones were excavated some years after his death, and they were photographed and measured before being reburied.

Entrance to the monument.

The Obelisk

Sgt. Floyd's story.

The afternoon was "free time", and activities ranged from playing cards to napping.  Sure did see a lot of smiles again today.

We don't need a free day to make us smile.
